Cameron Station Community Association
By Andrew Hill, Board President
In Alexandria’s West End, Cameron Station is more than a neighborhood. It is a community with history, pride, and connection at its core. Once a U.S. Army base, the neighborhood has flourished since its transformation in 1998 into a welcoming mix of townhomes, condominiums, and single-family homes, all surrounded by green spaces, pocket parks, and tree-lined sidewalks. What sets Cameron Station apart is not only its beautiful architecture and amenities, but the spirit of its people. Here, neighbors are more than residents. They are friends who invest time, energy, and care into making this community thrive.
At the center of Cameron Station life is the Cameron Club. This hub, located across from the community’s iconic gazebo, welcomes residents with the management office, a fitness center, meeting rooms, a basketball court, and a pool. It is a place where everything from swim lessons and PomSquad classes to holiday parties and Board and committee meetings brings neighbors together. Along Brenman Park Drive, residents enjoy the convenience of a coffee shop, restaurant, daycare, dog groomer, and other services just steps from home. Families benefit from Samuel Tucker Elementary School on the edge of the neighborhood, while nearby city parks and trails encourage outdoor activity. Just a short walk away, the West End Farmers Market in Ben Brenman Park has become a beloved Sunday tradition, drawing residents together for fresh produce and local goods.
What makes Cameron Station exceptional is its focus on connection and engagement. The calendar year is filled with opportunities to come together. Food Truck Fridays, fitness classes, and game nights create opportunities for neighbors to connect and enjoy time together. Seasonal traditions such as the Spring Eggstravaganza, Patriotic Parade, Summer Pool Party, Halloween Party, and Holiday Party add to the rhythm of community life. Educational workshops, Meet and Greet events, and charity drives give residents the chance to learn, welcome, and give back. Each event, large or small, strengthens the ties that make Cameron Station special.
Our community is also deeply connected with the City of Alexandria. The resident-led Cameron Station Civic Association gives neighbors a voice on city-wide issues and builds strong relationships with local leaders. Friends of Cameron Station Parks unite volunteers for clean-up efforts that keep our surrounding green spaces beautiful. Beyond our borders, residents give their time to local schools, libraries, and city-wide initiatives such as charity drives and food collections, extending the spirit of Cameron Station into the greater Alexandria community.
Clear communication ensures that every resident stays connected to all of these efforts. The Compass blog, the weekly Connection email, social media, and the community website provide timely updates, highlight events, and celebrate achievements. Together, these platforms make sure that neighbors are informed, engaged, and inspired to participate in community life.
With more than 1,700 homes, it continues to be a place where diversity is celebrated, where communication is open, and where neighbors invest their time into the community they are proud to call home.
