2024 Very Large Community of the Year: Stone Ridge Association

By Michael Rhodes

Stone Ridge is a beautiful community of single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums nestled in the quiet suburbs of eastern Loudoun. Regarded as a sought-after place to live and consistently ranked as one of the best places to raise a family, Stone Ridge is much more than a homeowners’ association to its residents. It’s a place they are proud to call home.

Located in one of the country’s fastest growing counties, Stone Ridge provides a true small-town feel in a contemporary setting. Residents, volunteer Board and Committee members, and the small on-site staff of Stone Ridge provide a welcoming warmth and facilitate community growth through events and engagement. The community hosts over 30 social events throughout the year and connects with residents using a variety of communication methods. It’s during these events and connections when the true colors of Stone Ridge shine.

Last summer, Stone Ridge celebrated 20 years with a block party for the ages. The community’s pride and togetherness were palpable with over 2,500 residents enjoying great food, entertainment and the company of neighbors. The celebration was the largest undertaking the Association has done for one event, but thanks to the help of dozens of volunteers and staff, our community came together while showcasing everything that makes Stone Ridge great.

The Association strives to keep residents informed and engaged by using consistent communication over a variety of channels. Residents can expect communication from the association on a regular basis on topics, including events, local news, deadlines, association policy and guidelines, community etiquette, and other relevant information. By providing more channels for residents to receive information, we have seen higher participation at our events, thus enhancing our community engagement and bringing our community closer together. Despite having almost 3,500 households and nearly 10,000 total residents, Stone Ridge fosters a small-town feel while providing convenience and modern accommodations. Residents have access to three swimming pools, a modern fitness center, playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts and miles of walking trails. Those trails connect our residents to an elementary, middle and high school, shopping center, restaurants, a library, a hospital and many doctor’s offices all within our small community. We are a short drive from Dulles International Airport and under an hour from both the Shenandoah National Park to the west and Washington, D.C. to the east.

Due to our proximity to our nation’s capital, we have a diverse demographic. The Association embraces this diversity by celebrating the holidays and traditions of residents in each community newsletter and lighting our entrance trees during the celebration of Diwali, Hannukah and Christmas. Our Activities Committee also ensures our event calendar offers events and activities for everyone, young and old.

Over the last 20 years, Stone Ridge has flourished from a developer’s plan to a neighborhood where residents feel at home. Through community involvement and effective leadership, the Association will continue to strive to become northern Virginia’s neighborhood of choice, where the cornerstones of community and culture thrive.
