Dear Members of the Washington Metro Chapter of CAI,
With great sadness and with admiration for him, we announce the passing of one of our chapter’s founders, John Manougian. John passed away January 22, 2022, after a long-fought battle with vascular disease.
John was born and raised in Washington, DC and played basketball at the University of Maryland and was a member of Theta Chi. While in college, he would also meet his beloved wife of nearly 60 years. His great loves were tennis and tennis. He was as respected on the court as he was off, and this sport of gentlemen, brought with it lessons of character, humility, laughter, and grace that would define his life.
In 1971 John established the John Manougian Insurance Agency. In 1977, John and industry colleagues created Community Associations Institute and established the Washington Metropolitan Chapter. John was inducted into the WMCCAI Hall of Fame in 1993 and served as Chapter President in 1999. Throughout the years, John was an active member of the chapter, providing leadership, guidance and expertise to all areas of the chapter and community associations industry.
John is survived by his wife, Lynda, his two daughters, Robin Manougian (and Adrian Pylypec) and Kit Manougian, and his son, Chris (and Hoa”Tee”) Manougian. He is the proud grandfather of Peter Garo Manougian and devoted brother of Violet Nahabedian.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family requested, in lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in John’s name to the American Heart Association: www.heart.org. WMCCAI has donated in John’s memory. If you wish to leave the family a message, please view and sign online family guestbook at www.pumphreyfuneralhome.com.
Sincerely,
Kristen Melson, CMCA, AMS, PCAM
