2020 – aren’t we glad that’s in the past?! Let’s look ahead — to the great plans WMCCAI has for 2021.
Conference & Expo
The trademark event of our chapter, Conference & Expo has grown and transformed over the past few years. 2021 will be no different…and yet completely different. Large gatherings of 2,000+ will take quite awhile to return to what we now call the “old normal”. With so many unknowns about the pandemic and vaccines and keeping our members health, safety, and wellness in mind, we have set the 2021 Conference & Expo as a 100% virtual event. Instead of one day, you will get three days of action online. Education sessions will be scheduled over three days; you will be able to attend live sessions or go back to see pre-recorded sessions when it is most convenient for you. Explore the Virtual Business Showcase where you can interact with hundreds of companies ready to work with you. From pool service to landscaping, management companies, painters, general contractors, and of course, accountants and engineers…there are plenty of ways to interact with new partners. During live Showcase hours, you can video chat with representatives; you can swap virtual business cards and set up one-on-one appointments to discuss your specific needs. Conference & Expo is all about learning and connecting; that remains true virtually. We are excited to create an online Conference experience for you this year and relaunch our in-person Expo again in 2022.
2021 is going to be a great year for education. We have a full schedule of webinars and interactive sessions planned. Looking ahead, the first six months of the year we will focus on virtual education. Once it is safe, we will launch a hybrid system for education; you will get to “Choose Your Own Adventure” to attend sessions in-person with smaller groups or be live-streamed into the session from your office or home. Be sure to read the article spotlighting the chapter’s education plan in this issue for all the details!
During the pandemic, Quorum went online with the rest of us. Digital Quorum allows the chapter to ensure every member receives the magazine while they are working remotely. The Issue Library also gives members access to past issues back to September 2018. Articles can be shared or saved or referenced later and best yet — members can read the magazine anywhere on their laptop, phone or tablet. For 2021, we will continue delivering Quorum digitally. The opportunities for advertisers in the digital platform are endless as advertisements are linked to the company website so that readers have direct and instant access to more information. The content calendar for 2021 is in progress already and members are in for a treat with timely material and knowledge in each issue.
We miss seeing members networking and connecting and engaging with each other. Our chapter is vibrant and friendly and loves to be together. Until the pandemic ends, and we can ensure our events are safe for members’ health, we will continue to bring you together online. The creative juices are flowing and there are some fun interactive virtual experiences coming in 2021. We will get back to in-person networking just as soon as possible.
The pandemic impacted the chapter significantly financially and operationally. Staff spent most of the year working remotely and learning new technology skills as we launched chapter programs into the virtual world. That will continue in 2021. Technology will play a large role in the chapter – from remote staff offices to virtual learning and networking. We have plans to upgrade the live streaming capabilities at the chapter office to bring hybrid education opportunities to members.
Creativity, adaptability, and resiliency defined the chapter in 2020….and we will carry those forward into 2021. But let’s add fun, innovative and connected to that list this year.
To get involved, join a committee! You can see a complete list of chapter committees on the website at https://www.caidc.org/resources/committee-overview/.
