Staff Accountant

Washington Metropolitan Chapter Community Associations Institute (WMCCAI) seeks an experienced staff accountant. This is a multifunctional professional position with responsibility for managing financial operations for a regional nonprofit association.

SUMMARY OF KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCIAL OPERATIONS

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepares and processes all bank deposits, to include entry into database and financial system, distribution of paperwork to appropriate staff members, and filing of paperwork.
  • Enters receivables into database and financial system, generates and mails invoices, and maintains accurate files of such.
  • Processes all credit card transactions, to include entry into database and financial system, prompt distribution of paperwork to appropriate staff members, filing of paperwork, and providing a receipt to customers as requested.
  • Maintains a system for delinquent account follow-up with the Executive Director.

 

Accounts Payable

  • Processes all incoming bills and check requests to ensure that they are paid prior to due date, to include bill coding and prompt entry into financial system.
  • Responds to all incoming calls and e-mails regarding accounts payable.
  • Produces monthly or as requested financial reports to the Program Managers, Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Maintains the computerized financial management system.
  • Maintains filing system for all financial records.
  • Maintains daily cash balance in the petty cash fund.
  • Serves as the liaison to the accounting firm.
  • Prepares financial files for annual audit.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree, or a combination of education and equivalent experience.
  • Three years of accounting experience and exposure to all facets of accounting functions
  • Experience with multiple computer applications including QuickBooks and Microsoft Office.  Microsoft Dynamics CRM experience a plus.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices as they relate to nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Office (CRM, Access, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and QuickBooks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management skills, and communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, independent, critical thinker with the need for minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple overlapping duties with accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Skill in solving problems and making recommendations.
  • Strong customer service skills, desire to assist members, and ability to work with volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends to staff program offerings as needed.
  • Physical ability to move moderately heavy materials.
