Congratulations to Hackberry Creek HOA for providing a beautiful, safe, and entertaining environment for children, teens, and adults in their community.
History Hackberry Creek is a 1,249 home master-planned gated community located just east of Dallas, Texas, in prestigious Las Colinas. In the community was an odd sized lot of land that had not been set aside for a specific purpose. When the community came together to decide what to do with this lot, they decided to take a giant leap and create an entertainment area that would delight both kids and adults.
Efforts The community built a 9-hole miniature Golf Course. The course was designed and constructed by one of the nation's largest developers of miniature golf courses, Harris Miniature Golf Courses, Inc., of Wildwood, New Jersey (www.harrisminigolf.com).
A babbling brook traverses the park flowing from a waterfall over large boulders and ending in a fountain-accented pool from which the water is recirculated underground back to the waterfall.
Two arched redwood bridges span the brook, and the golf course as well as other park amenities is handicap-accessible.
Because of the park's close proximity to surrounding homes, the entire park is lushly landscaped and may be accurately described as a garden park in which a miniature golf course just happens to be located. A central feature in the park is an ornate redwood gazebo, the floor of which is a beautiful slate mosaic reflecting the many colors and hues of that metamorphic rock. It is here that some visitors elect to come to simply relax and enjoy the array of trees, plants, blooming perennials and even an herb garden that surround them.
Bill Leeming of Leeming Design Group, Fort Worth, Texas, designed the park's landscaping. Mr. Leeming planted over forty varieties of mostly native, low maintenance and, occasionally, less frequently used trees and plants making a stroll through the park an experience of ever-changing vistas. The park's fifteen large trees are bald cypress, live oak, and bur oak trees while the thirty-four ornamental trees are crape myrtle and river birch. Screening, where needed, was accomplished using thirty Eldarica pines.
The HOA provides residents with as many loaner putters (both adult and children sizes) as their group requires and golf balls that will float if they happen to get into the park's water feature.
Resolution Residents have found the park to be an excellent venue for birthday parties where, after the festivities, partygoers can enjoy as many rounds of golf as they wish in a safe, easily supervised environment. In deference to residents in nearby homes, the park is closed each day at sundown.
